I wish I had a dollar for every moment that we'd shared
I'd be a rich man, and then I'd take you anywhere
We could leave here on a plane, in a train, or in a car
Or we could even take a boat, and sail away to somewhere far
But I don't need that money, I don't need no sailing boat
I just need my woman, and a place that we call home
Cause home is where I've always been
And home is where I'm going to
Home is what we make of it
As long as I'm with you
But I still find temptation in traveling round the globe
I want your fingers locked with mine as I venture the unknowns
But our adventure still contains some things we haven't seen
Like college, kids, and mortgages. And everything else in between
Even with all of the variables about which we don't know
There's always one place we can sort them out, and it's called home
Cause home is where I've always been
And home is where I'm going to
Home is what we make of it
As long a I'm with you
With a big white porch, and a garden in the back
A chicken coop around the side, and a little old tool-shack
Pictures in the living room of all the moments we have shared
And a savings jar that's full of coins' so I can take you anywhere
Cause home is where I've always been
And home is where I'm going to
Home is what we make of it
As long a I'm with you

Moonshine In The Jar
04:14

As I was going over The Appalachian Mountains
I saw The Captain Farrell, and his money he was counting
I first produced my pistol, I then produced my saber
I said "Stand an deliver. Or The Devil, he may take ya!"
I took all of his money, and it was a pretty penny
Yeah I took all of his money, and I brought it home to Holly
She swore that she'd love me. No, never would she leave me
But The Devil take that woman! For you know she tricked me easy
Musha-rin dadum do, darum da-oh yeah!
Whack fol de daddio!
Whack fol de daddio!
There's moonshine in the jar-o
I retired to my chamber, for to take a slumber
I dreamt of the gold and silver yeah, you know it was no wonder
Holly she took my pistols, and filled them up with water
Then she sent for The Captain Farrell, seeking to have me slaughtered
And it was the early morning, before I set out to travel
And the guards, well they surround me; along with The Captain Farrell
I first produced my pistol; for she stashed away my saber
But I couldn't shoot through that water, so as a prisoner I was taken
Musha-rin dadum do, darum da-oh yeah!
Whack fol de daddio!
Whack fol de daddio!
There's moonshine in the jar-o
Now some men like the fishin'
Some men like the fowlin'
Some men like to hear, to hear 'a the cannon balls a-roarin
But me, well I like sleepin
Especially in my Holly's chamber
But here I am in prison
Here I am with a ball and chain, yeah!
Musha-rin dadum do, darum da-oh yeah!
Whack fol de daddio!
Whack fol de daddio!
There's moonshine in the jar-o
Musha-rin dadum do, darum da-oh yeah!
Whack fol de daddio!
Whack fol de daddio!
There's moonshine in the jar-o

If Only

The rusty old strings on this withered guitar
Still tell a story of a love so far-
Gone are the days of this tale that is told
Gone are the days of a kindly old soul
For heartache and heartbreak can do a man in
It seemed with this woman, he never could win
If only, If only, If only
Love like this was a one-sided war
Love like this; he couldn't endure
For one to keep loving, the other keep living;
He's left on the shore
Of a phantasmal vision in his head
This fret on this string strikes a note from the past
Bringing back memories of what he thought would last
Of a girl that was dancing 'round his heart in a dress
Of the time that he spilled his whole heart and confessed
Without her he wouldn't be able to live
It would be his whole heart, his whole soul he would give
If only, If only, If only
He can still see her dancing like and old roll of film
The scratchy and splotchy memories make him ill
If only. If only, If only
Love like this was a one-sided war
Love like this; he couldn't endure
For one to keep loving, the other keep living;
He's left on the shore
Of a phantasmal vision in his head
Forty years in the making; forty years that flew by
She dug through his drawers and she started to cry
A recording he'd made of all those old songs
Etched into vinyl that sat for so long
There was the chord she'd known and loved
And the kindly old voice; pure and soft as a dove
If only, He sings, If only

A Walk With My Friends
04:56
|
|||
I walk with my friends all through the street
Women and children are staring at me
It’s as if they know what’s about to go down
And I see him standing there, with a phone in his hand
And a look on his face of a possessed man
It’s as if time moves in slow motion
A bang, and a flash, and down goes John, and I rush right to his side
I held him in my arms and I watched the life go from his eyes
I cursed and I shouted to the sky, “Why couldn’t it have been me?”
“Why did my brother have to go oh so suddenly?”
And I promise, I will live today
I just can’t go out that way
For, if I fail, all will be lost
And John; he will have died in vain
Another day, another sun is beating down on me
I walk with my friends through this endless valley
Ben turns, smiles, and gives me a thumbs up
In the distance we see a little shack, it’s not looking so good
I wish those moments could be reversed, I really wish they could
It’s as if time moves in slow motion
A crack on the air, and down goes Ben, and I rushed right to his side
I held him in my arms and I watched the life go from his eyes
“SNIPER! SNIPER! SNIPER!” I yell, as loud as can be
Why did my brother have to go, oh so suddenly
And I promise, I will live today
I just can’t go out that way
For, if I fail, all will be lost
And Ben, he will have died in vain
Only three more days til I go back to where I, I want to be
I find myself with my friends again, walking these broken streets
But my family is the only thing on my mind
I hear “Contact left!” a dozen times over the radio
Mark looks over at me and he says, “Now brother, it’s time to go!”
It’s as if time moves in slow motion
Three hits to my chest, now I go down, and Mark is by my side
He holds me in his arms, and I say, “Now brother, I don’t wanna die!”
He says, “Hold on man, now you’re gonna be fine. Now just think about your little girl.”
I say, “Get your crazy ass down my man, ‘cause you’ve gotta get me back to her.”
And I’m sorry I didn’t pull through today
I guess I was just meant to go out that way
But I didn’t fail, and all was not lost
And I promise you, I didn’t die in vain

I wish I could taste the love that I'd grown
I wish I could reap the seeds that I'd sown
I wish I could hear you now, but you're gone. Yeah you're gone
And I am all alone
A foundation of rock and stone; of love and days
I told you that I'd take your hand; that I'd find a way
Now all of your dreams have come true my dear. I'll smile, and I'll wait
For the day that doesn't exist
And my bones feel empty away from the comfort of yours
And my blood it runs thin without my heartbeat now
Away from you
Not ever us
Your dad has your arm; you traverse the isle
My dear, how you glow. Damn, look at you smile
You're speaking words and holding my hands. You say
"Now how did I score such a good man?"
I say "Turn around now. It's your time."
Feel the knife in my chest as you catch his eye
You say "I do." and he says the same. What a shame
I wish I were him, and we were forever
And my bones feel empty away from the comfort of yours
And my blood it runs thin without my heartbeat now
Away from you
Not ever us
These days I'm old. By now I thought I'd have died
Gray hair; and a thinner hide
Broken hearts never heal, and men; they will change; Grow small
I'm not half the man that I once was
Now everybody's left the room; left me alone with you
I lay down by your side; hardly room for two
Your deathbed's no place for me, but I wanted to see you out. Please don't go
Hold your hand for the last time. Oh my dear.
And my bones feel empty away from the comfort of yours
And my blood it runs thin without my heartbeat now
Away from you
Not ever us
Try to find me, my dear, in the next room
Without my heart here on earth, well I'll be there soon
Cause I've always followed my hear
